A Year in the Forest

The buzzards made for quite a display.  It is not evident from the pictures but the local crows did not like the buzzards around and were cawing and harassing them.

  Another cool day, I did wear long pants again but am still wearing my short sleave shirt.  I worked on the new path again.  It affords a view of the den in the side of the ravine that I wrote about earlier. I encountered a deer again today.  It is getting near deer hunting season and I have expected them to get a little more afraid of me but that has not happened.

The freeze did stop most of the mushroom growth.  Now I will have to start looking at other things.

  The forest was damp and the air cool this morning.  I took the opportunity to go off the beaten path and look at some other areas.  I am not sure why but the bird activity was really ramped u, they were flitting around and bathing in puddles everywhere.  I did find one thing I have been looking for – more of the deer carcass from a few days ago.  I also found some fresh puffball mushrooms that I picked and we had or supper.

  Dry day in the forest.  Leaves are falling more every day.  I heard the deer snort at me and saw the squirrels playing in the leaves.

  It is cool and dry today.  The forest was unusually quiet, the crows were no where around for a change.  I did hear the stag deer snorting and stomping around in the forest letting everyone know that he was there.  The leaves are coming down more every day and can be seen in the picture at the start of this article.

I have two cats, a 2 or 3 year old big cat (she is my office cat) and a small old cat about 12 years old.  The big young cat never goes with me on walks, the small old cat does sometimes and did today.  She follows from a distance like she is stalking me and never comes up close.  Nothing much else to report.  I found a ripe paw-paw and ate it.  The mushrooms are all gone.
