This northern tooth (scientific name: climacodon septentrionalis) is the largest mushroom I have ever found. It is about 18 inches tall. The beech tree it is on is so big it would take two people to reach around it.

Too bad it is not edible it would keep me in mushrooms for a long time. Like most shelf mushrooms it is woody and very hard.
